Five For Friday For February Vacation!

Happy Friday!  This week we were on vacation which means it's time to link up with Doodle Bugs for:

If you live in eastern Massachusetts, we got to shovel again:

Shoveling the mouth of the driveway is the WORST!

Luckily, my son and his friend were willing to shovel the roof:

I joined a new health club - the Boston Sports Club - in Lynnfield.  I'm adjusting to the new spin bikes and schedule.  The bikes have a monitor that indicate how far you've gone and how many calories you've burned.

I've been putting together a presentation about the American Revolution for my interactive whiteboard.  We've been learning about Massachusetts in the American Revolution for almost a month now, but we keep getting so many snow days and now vacation, it's hard to remember what we've been learning.

I've been catching up on appointments: the hairdresser; the dermatologist; the veterinarian....

Amazingly, with all the treats my husband gave Gabi the Dog, she still lost 5 pounds!

My favorite activity this week has been reading.  I'm reading this book by one of my favorite authors, Anita Diamant:

Here's part of the book summary from Amazon:

Eighty-five-year-old Addie tells the story of her life to her twenty-two-year-old granddaughter, who has asked her “How did you get to be the woman you are today.” She begins in 1915, the year she found her voice and made friends who would help shape the course of her life. From the one-room tenement apartment she shared with her parents and two sisters, to the library group for girls she joins at a neighborhood settlement house, to her first, disastrous love affair, Addie recalls her adventures with compassion for the naïve girl she was and a wicked sense of humor.

Overall, this week has flown by - like most vacations - I've enjoyed my vacation tremendously!

Happy Weekend!

  1. Hi Susan! We had to hire someone to shovel our roof too and break up our ice dams. I LOVE Anita Diament! The Red Tent is one of my all time favorites, but I hadn't heard of The Boston Girl! Being from Boston, I think this is going to have to be next on my list! I am trying to teach the events that lead up to the Revolution for the first time this year, so I am inspired by your idea! Thanks for sharing!

  2. All your shoveling brings back memories of all the shoveling I did growing up in Wisconsin. I also hated getting the mouth of the driveway. If I piled it up too high I'd have to re-do it because my parents couldn't see oncoming cars when they backed out of the driveway. I'll have to try that book. It sounds good. I'm currently reading The Thirteenth Tale for my book club. I'd recommend it as well! Happy Friday!

  3. I love reading as well! I will have to check out the book you mentioned! Have fun at your spinning classes! I love spinning and with school being cancelled I feel like I actually get to get in some good workouts! :) I hope you have a great weekend.

  4. Plus you have to shovel the mouth of the driveway repeatedly because the plow keeps pushing more snow into it!! Awful! I'll have to check out that book. Thanks for the recommendation!
