Five For Friday - On Time!

I'm determined to my Five For Friday post done on time today!  I'm linking up with Doodle Bugs for:

http://doodlebugsteaching.blogspot.com/2015/11/five-for-friday-linky-party-november_27.html

We had the BEST time making our Wampanoag dioramas!

If you want to check out the wetu and mishoon, click here.

I went spinning four times last week to avoid putting on too many extra pounds from overeating on Thanksgiving:

Of course, I still managed to gain some weight, but hopefully it will come off...

I cooked Thanksgiving dinner for 15 people.  I bought my biggest turkey yet - 22.4 pounds.  When taking the turkey out of the oven, I dropped it.

Ouch...very traumatizing!

Right now I should be working on my paper for my Responsive Classroom class about the first six weeks of Morning Meetings.  I'm hoping to finish up my paper today or this weekend.

The kids worked on paragraphs about how they brush their teeth.  We're working on including lots of interesting details!

Enjoy your leftovers and the long weekend!

Five For Friday - Learning About Native Americans!

It's Sunday evening which is now my time to link up with Doodle Bugs for:

http://doodlebugsteaching.blogspot.com/2015/11/five-for-friday-linky-party-november.html

Change Is Simple came to visit last week.  They did a super fun lesson on endangered animals:

Change Is Simple is a great group of environmentalists who come to our school several times a year to teach the kids about different topics.  You can read more about them here.

We learned A LOT about the Wampanoag Native Americans:

We followed up our learning with making our own mishoons out of paper:

You can check out this product on Teachers Pay Teachers here.

We started sharing our Powerpoint presentations about the four types of sentences.  Here's a pages from Joseph's presentation:

Joseph did an outstanding job with his animations and transitions!

Last, but not least, I planned my father's 83rd birthday party which was on Saturday.  We had a family lunch at a restaurant near where he lives.

I got this really cool checkerboard cake at a local bakery.  I called it the "Rolls Royce" of cakes because it was so expensive.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Thanksgiving This or That!

Happy Week Before Thanksgiving!  I'm happy to link up with Trina for:

http://ordinarytoextraordinaryclassroom.blogspot.com/2015/11/meet-teacher-mondaythis-or-that.html

Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday, and I'll be cooking a turkey - roasted in the oven.  My sister makes pumpkin pie.  We don't have rolls, but we definitely wouldn't have biscuits.  My sister also makes the gravy.  One year she made the gravy on a cookie sheet on top of my stove.  It took a LONG time to clean up that disaster.  Now she uses a pan, and the gravy is just fine.

In preparation for Thanksgiving I had a salad for lunch and dinner.  I'm just hoping to keep my weight the same.

Next week we have two full days of school and a half day on Wednesday.  Some schools have a whole week off.  It's pretty amazing that the schedules can be so different.

Thanks for visiting today!

Five For Friday - Sunday Edition - Again...

Hello there!  I'm always happy to link up with Doodle Bugs for:

http://doodlebugsteaching.blogspot.com/2015/11/five-for-friday-linky-partynovember-13th.html

We're sharing our interview paragraphs!  Each student was matched with another and interviewed each other.  The interview information was written into a paragraph with a matching picture.  Check it out:

These look great on the bulletin board, and they make me smile because each picture has a great smile!

This week's writing prompt is about our favorite food.  Here's my paragraph that I modeled and revised:

I'd make more mashed potatoes if I didn't have to peel potatoes!

We started learning about Native Americans:

I got some great Thanksgiving books out of the library, and we'll be reading these next week:

A lot of the kids finished their Powerpoint presentations about the different types of sentences and are now working on new presentations.  Their new presentations center on an area in which they're experts.  I'll have to take some pictures next week.

Until then, have a wonderful week!

Five For Friday - Weekend Edition!

Hello!  It's the weekend, and it's time to link up with Doodle Bugs for:

http://doodlebugsteaching.blogspot.com/2015/11/five-for-friday-linky-party-november-6th.html

We had a dress rehearsal for the school and a concert for the parents for Veterans Day.  The kids did a beautiful job singing the song choices:

Thanks to Devin's Mom for forwarding a picture to me!

We have been very busy learning about the Water Cycle.  I found a new song on Pinterest that I incorporated into our Morning Meeting:

Here's my completed anchor chart on the same topic:

We're working on a new round of centers.  In the Listening Center, we're reading the book, The Littlest Pumpkin, by R.A. Herman.  For Word Work, we're learning about synonyms and reviewing complete sentences.  For the Math centers, one is Xtramath, and the other is task cards.

We read this fun book - Tad and Dad - by author David Ezra Stein.  Here's a page from the book:

This is a great book for onomatopeia, and it's very humorous.  It's definitely worth checking out!  Click here to read more on Amazon.

Friday afternoon we had an assembly about saving energy from Eversource.  The kids LOVED it because the actors really hammed it up and encouraged plenty of audience participation.

I'm so happy that you visited today!  Have a wonderful week!

Meet the Teacher - Birthday Edition

Having just celebrated my  55th birthday, I'm all set to link up with Ordinary to Extraordinary Classroom for:

I do enjoy my birthday.  This year I was super lucky because my birthday fell on a Monday holiday; the weather was beautiful; and I got to go apple picking with my family.  I'm honest about my age because I like to be honest.  My biggest wish for myself and my family is health.  As I get older, I learn to appreciate the importance of being healthy.

I just finished watching the "Belief" series on OWN so I'm feeling very philosophical.  It's a great series with amazing footage of beautiful places on Earth.  I learned so much about different religions and traditions.  It's definitely worth watching!

I'm so happy that it's Friday!  I'll be back tomorrow with my Five For Friday so please check in again soon!
