What a week ~ Five For Friday!

Every week seems to fly by when we're working so hard!  We learned a LOT last week so I'm looking forward to linking up with Doodle Bugs!

Morning Messages

I try to make my Morning Messages as relevant and educational as possible:

#LOTSOFSOCKS

My students (mainly the girls) and I had fun wearing mismatched socks on World Down Syndrome Day:

At Morning Meeting, we had a meaningful discussion of visible and invisible disabilities.
Non-Fiction Text Features

When I explained that we would all be making our own Non-Fiction Text Feature poster, several kids exclaimed, "We already did this!"  Immediately upon passing out the headings, someone asked, "What's a caption?"  It just goes to prove how much we need to spiral back and review:

That turkey sandwich from Time For Kids looks so delicious!

Book Recommendations

If you're looking for a fun and humorous book, you definitely need to read:

https://www.amazon.com/I-Yam-Donkey-Cece-Bell/dp/0544087208/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1490460861&sr=8-1&keywords=i+yam+a+donkey
Click on book to read more at Amazon.

The donkey insists on misusing the verb, "to be."  The kids LOVED this book, and sometimes, you just need a book to make everyone happy ~ in addition, to reviewing helping verbs!

I also started reading this chapter book during snack:

https://www.amazon.com/Clementine-Spring-Trip-Book/dp/1423124375/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1490461092&sr=8-1&keywords=clementine+and+the+spring+trip
Click on book for more details.

First, Clementine and her family live right in Boston; they visit the "Make Way For Ducklings" statues in the Public Garden ~ all in the first chapter!  The class field trip is to Plymouth Plantation!  This is a perfect read-aloud to spiral back to review the Pilgrims, and it's a fun book, too!

Rosemary Wells' Visit to my Local Library

I loved hearing Rosemary Wells at my local library.  She spoke about how she makes her illustrations which are amazing.

I even bought a book that she signed!

Better Late Than Never ~ Five For Friday ~ Finally!

I'm finally linking up with Doodle Bugs for Five For Friday!

Morning Messages

Last week we had a snow day due to a nor'easter.  In addition, we wrapped up our chapter on landforms and focused on suffixes in spelling:

How to Brush Your Teeth

Last week the kids started to share their "how to" paragraphs:

We recently wrapped up our "Expert Book" unit so the kids are choosing to continue with writing chapter books that include a cover and an about the author page!

Front Row

In Computer Lab, the kids have been enjoying Front Row:

Front Row   is free and includes a huge variety of ELA and Math activities.  Even better, the kids LOVE doing this!  If you've never heard of it, check it out here.

Here's a close-up of a measurement question:

Lost Tooth Traditions and Stories

Last week the kids began writing about a time they lost a tooth.  The stories are quite extraordinary, too!

First, we read this great book:

https://www.amazon.com/Throw-Your-Tooth-Roof-Traditions/dp/0618152385/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1489925617&sr=8-1&keywords=throw+your+tooth+on+the+roof+tooth+traditions+from+around+the+world
Click on the cover for more details on Amazon.

We love learning what other kids do when they lose a tooth.  Let's just say that several countries have tooth "rats!"

#LOTSOFSOCKS Reminder

March 21st is World Down Syndrome Day (click here to read the original post).  The best part = wearing unmatched, colorful socks!  How fun!

Make sure to use the hashtag #LOTSOFSOCKS!

Also, make sure to visit Doodle Bugs for more:

 and High Latitude Style for:

Background Information

My husband and I were going to a wedding on Long Island at the end of February, and I needed a new dress.  I looked in all the usual places ~ TJ Maxx, Marshall's ~ but I wasn't finding anything.  Plus, everything was picked over from Christmas, and it was snowy and cold.  I decided to shop on Amazon, and amazingly found a perfect dress!

Now presenting ~

I ended up with a navy blue velvet dress that is super comfortable and versatile:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01NBCBF03/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

What I love about this dress is the ruching at the waist; the v-neck; the side zipper which makes it easy to take off.  Also, you can dress it up or wear it casually.

Here's a picture from Amazon:

In addition, if you like Modcloth dresses, it's worth taking a look at these ACEVOG dresses.  The price point is also better.

Well, it's almost eight o'clock on a Friday night ~ time to get ready for bed!  Thanks for visiting.  I'd love to hear if you've ever tried this brand of dresses.

Moving Through March ~ Five For Friday!

Hello there!  It's time for an update on what's happening around here so I'm linking up with Doodle Bugs for:

http://doodlebugsteaching.blogspot.ca/2017/03/five-for-friday-linky-party-march-10th.html

Morning Messages

This week's messages revolved around our teeth and how to take care of them the best way possible:

This week's writing project was How I Brush My Teeth.  Next week I'll share some samples.

The NED Show and Character Assemblies

On Friday, we enjoyed a NED School Assembly.  The kids enjoyed all the yo-yo tricks combined with character education.  Next week, all students can purchase a yo-yo and accessories at lunch.  These purchases help fund these assemblies.

In addition, we had our monthly character assembly ~ one student from each grade level is recognized.  Next month's trait will be honesty.

Duct Tape Boxes

In one of our after school programs, the kids construct items using duct tape.  I was the lucky recipient of two boxes from my students, Brooke and Blake:

I do enjoy these

Lots of Socks on Conversations From The Classroom

Last week I posted over at my collaborative blog:  Conversations from the Classroom  about:

http://www.conversationsfromtheclassroom.com/2017/03/get-your-socks-on-march-21st-is.html

This year's theme is mismatched socks so that people will ask you why you're wearing those socks, you'll have to the opportunity to tell about the importance of this day.  Click here or on the pictures to read my original post.

Enjoy your weekend, and thanks for visiting!
