Tanglewood Marionettes = AMAZING!

Our PTO treated us to the most magical and engaging puppet show by Tanglewood Marionettes called The Dragon King:

The best part of the show was when the dragon walked around the gym and squirted water on all the kids ~ they were totally enthralled!

National Hippo Day & An Amazing Perfect Poem!

Before writing my Morning Message, I always check in with Checkiday to see what exciting holiday is taking place.  Last Friday, luckily, it was National Hippo Day, and I found the most perfect poem to accompany this special day:

A Beautiful Winter Sweater ~ On Sale!

I've been in love with this Boden sweater from the moment I saw it!  Of course, it was way over my comfort zone at $130.  Luckily for me, the sweater finally went on sale for President's Day.  It was still over my price point, but I decided that it "sparked joy," and I bought it!

I've saved the best news for last!

I'm on February vacation!  Tomorrow I'm going to Chinatown in Boston for Chinese New Year and the dragon parade.

Happy President's Day!

Anticipating

I'm looking forward to all the fun holidays this month!  We have already celebrated Groundhog Day and are now learning about Chinese New Year.  My students are excited to exchange Valentines, and I just love emphasizing kindness and empathy.

Going

In April, my husband and I are planning a trip to Florida.  I LOVE seeing my aunt (my mother's sister) who has Alzheimer's.  I believe that the soul has a memory, and I know that she'll remember that I care so much about her.

I recently read an article about Lauderdale by the Sea in the Boston Globe.  Since my husband insists on staying somewhere different than Delray Beach, I'm looking into this new place.  Plus, it's only a thirty minute drive to the facility where my aunt is in Delray.

Here's a picture of sunrise from our trip last year:

Making

Tonight I made Cajun Chicken Pasta using jarred Alfredo sauce.  This recipe is pretty spot on to the one that I make.  I always use Purdue thin sliced chicken breasts ~ they really make a difference!

Watching

My 11 year old dog insists on waking me up at 4:40 a.m.  Consequently, I've been watching Tidying Up with Marie Kondo on Netflix.  It has subtitles so I have to focus and pay attention ~ which means that I can't watch this show while I'm correcting!  The first step of the process involves placing all of your clothes in one big pile.  UGH!  That seems so overwhelming!  It's much more relaxing to watch other people tidying up!

Once a year, I reorganize and tidy up all my teacher "stuff."  It takes forever!

Wearing

I'm looking forward to wearing my new polar bear sweater from the Loft.  Aren't those bear too cute?

It's been a pleasure to blog during the week!  I hope you're enjoying February where you live!  Thanks for visiting the blog today!

Fabulous February Has Arrived!

Happy February!  I'm sure Miss G. ~ the Massachusetts State Groundhog ~ saw her shadow yesterday which means 6 more weeks of winter.  Of course, spring doesn't really arrive here until the end of May ~ if we're lucky!

Today I'm linking up with Anna Nuttall's New Bloggers Link-Up
and Andrea, Erika and  Narci for Friday Favorites!

Which elephant ears would work best?

Last week we watched a video about how elephants use their ears to cool their bodies.  After that, the kids were divided into groups of two.  One student received a "sticky note" elephant ear while the other received an "index card" elephant ear.  I placed a drop of water on one student's hand while the other acted as the flapping elephant ear:

After much flapping and fun, the students determined that the index card elephant ear was more effective because it is stiffer and thicker.

Civil Rights = All People Are Equal!

We've been looking up a lot of words in the dictionary.  We made a glossary for a non-fiction book about Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. (we probably will only get to the glossary of this non-fiction book).  One of the words was civil rights, and I love how each student's glossary reflected their understanding:

The Loft Has Some Super Sweaters!

I've been looking for a polar bear sweater but couldn't find one.  Luckily, I found this sweater online from The Loft:
