Today is O.K. Day! (March 23rd)

I do love the Checkiday site as a way to discover little known holidays ~ like O.K. Day!  According to Allan Metcalf, the author who started this celebration, O.K. is such an important word in the American language that he's written an entire book about it.

Change Is Simple Visits ~ What are gyres?

Change Is Simple is a non-profit group that visits our school four times a year to teach us about keeping our world cleaner and healthier.  During the last visit, we learned about the ocean and its different layers:

In our oceans, there are areas of large whirlpools called gyres.  Some of these areas become filled with trash and debris.  The biggest one is in the Pacific Ocean.  I never knew any of this was happening.  In addition, a lot of the debris includes plastic by-products, and that's why it's so important to use reusable bags and as little plastic as possible.

In closing...

Yesterday report cards went home.  Preparing report cards ~ even though it's all computerized ~ is still quite time-consuming.  I spend a large amount of time making sure that I give each student the grades they have earned.  Plus, we need to write comments which is probably the most important part!

Thank you so much for visiting today!  I hope it's really spring wherever you live!

Scheming

On March 10th, it's my 35th wedding anniversary.  I'm trying to think of a special outing for me and my husband.  I better hurry up it's tomorrow!

Here we are at our older son's wedding last June:

Reading

I'm really enjoying the descriptive language in this beautifully written book:

Buying

I just love browsing around in TJ Maxx or Marshall's.  I never come out empty-handed!  I'm always buying something.  Now I've discovered how to shop online at TJ Maxx where there are many more options than in the store.

Making

Making is not my strong point ~ unless it's dinner, and it's easy!  This is one of my favorite Hello Fresh recipes that I've been able to make on my own.  It's delicious and makes plenty for leftover which means less cooking for me!

Accomplishing

It's the every day, small accomplishments that get me through the day.  I wake up every day before 4:30 a.m. (today is was 4:20, but tomorrow is daylight saving time so I'll be waking up later!) due to my 11+ year old dog.  She doesn't need to go outside, she just needs comfort and companionship until it's time to go for our morning walk at 5:30.  This week the temperatures have been in the low teens with wind, but I make sure we walk to get our exercise.

Hope your March is off to a great start!  Thanks for visiting the blog today!

Shopping & A Snow Day = Happiness

Snow days are an excellent opportunity to catch up on blogging!  I'm so happy to have this ~  hopefully once in the wintertime ~ snow day!  After all, I do enjoy linking up with The Blended Blog for:

http://www.theblendedblog.com/2019/03/tbb-asks-shopping.html?utm_source=bloglovin.com&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+theblendedblog%2FxJYi+%28The+Blended+Blog%29

1.  My favorite places to shop include:

*T.J. Maxx

*Marshall's

*Nordstrom:  specifically for special occasions, i.e. a mother of the groom dress!

2.  On Saturdays, my friend and I enjoy browsing in a local T.J. Maxx or Marshall's.  I do enjoy finding something serendipitously!

The "Endless Summer" pillow is from T.J. Maxx while the Baker Boy cap and scarf are from Norstrom!

3.  I do LOVE shopping for soap.  Having scented soap is such a luxury for me.  I often buy soap and a hand towel for a hostess gift.

4.  I don't enjoy shopping for bathing suits.  That's why I've been ordering mine from Beall's, Florida's Department Store.  After all, it's summer all year in Florida so they have an amazing selection of bathing suits that I can try on at home!

I found that hat in Marshall's.

 5.  My favorite recently purchased item has to be my new sweater from Boden.

When I saw this sweater, it was love at first sight.  I just had to wait until it was on sale, and for President's Day, there was an additional discount so I bought my longed-for sweater!

6.  Although my friend and I arrive at a store together, we do prefer to browse alone.  Plus, I have a routine.  I always start with the sales racks and finish in the shoe department.

7.  One of my best bargains was this skirt that I purchased in Savers.

8.  I don't mind consignment stores for high-end items such as Lily Pulitzer.

Chaus skirt on left and Lily on right!

9.  The best city for shopping has to be Boston, of course!  It was home to the original Filene's Basement = BEST store ever!

10.  I just love the way Reese Witherspoon dresses.  Her clothes are colorful and fun, and of course, she always looks perfect!

The best part of snow in March is that it melts quickly, and the roads get down to the pavement right away!  It's back to work tomorrow so I'm so happy that I got to blog two days in a row!

Who's your style icon?  My maiden name was "Reese" so that makes me like Reese Witherspoon even more!

Celebrating Chinese New Year With Boston Mayor Marty Walsh!

My niece, Lauren (right behind me in the light blue coat and right next to the Mayor), wants to major in Chinese next year in college.  When learning the weather on the day of the Chinese New Year parade would be in the thirty-degree range, I invited everyone who might want to come.  (In past years, the weather has been frigid or snowy).  While we were walking along, we saw Mayor Marty Walsh.  His aide noticed our excitement and asked if we'd like a picture.  Voila!

From back left:  my sister, Nancy; son Andrew; my husband, Matt; Lauren, the Mayor ; In front:  me and my daughter, Bethany
In addition, to this photo opportunity, we saw many dragons and followed them from restaurant to restaurant.  They are all so colorful and festive.  Boston Chinatown is the third largest Chinatown in the U.S.A. and definitely worth checking out if you're ever in the area!

Click here to check out A LOT of great pictures and here to read more about Chinatown in Boston.

The third graders were so lucky to have Assistant Superintendent Wendy Sprague read an Alaskan version of Cinderella:  The Salmon Princess.  Even better, Ms. Sprague shared several pictures of her Alaskan trip after reading:

Need Hiking Boots?  Check out this pair!

Back in the 1970's, I had a most favorite pair of navy blue suede hiking boots with red laces.  Now that hiking boots are on trend, I set out to find myself a similar pair.  I found a perfect pair on Amazon!
