Incorporating Math Into Morning Meeting

I do love checking out Checkiday every morning upon arrival at school to see what's on the calendar for obscure days.  Last week this holiday was on their web site so I used it to compose that day's Morning Message:

Celebrating Johnny Appleseed's Birthday ~ Directed Drawing Style!

September 26th is Johnny Appleseed's birthday.  Just in case you didn't know, he is also the State Folktale hero of Massachusetts.  To celebrate we completed these fun directed drawings:

Introducing Story Elements

In Reading, we started learning about story elements, and of course, I reinforced the concept in our Morning Message:

Next week we'll continue on with problem, solution and main events.

I used this Pin to make my Morning Message:

Have a wonderful week ahead, and as always, thank you for visiting the blog today!

Last Monday we learned about the U.S. Constitution which was signed on September 17th!

Place Value Math Game Using Playing Cards

I saw this adorable game on the Mailbox Blog (I tried to find the original post but couldn't).    We played Place Value War on Friday using scissors to show the greater than/less than ~ the BIG mouth eats the BIG number.  Next week we're going to play again making 4 digit number instead.

Pumpkin Themed Morning Message

I write my Morning Messages every day when I arrive at school.  Click here or on the picture to read how I make the most of my Morning Messages.

Remembering September 11th

We started off the week learning about Patriot Day in our Morning Message:

Later that day, we followed up with a non-fiction book written by Maira Kalman about the John J. Harvey Fireboat that came out of retirement to help out during 9/11:

International Chocolate Day ~ September 13th or Any Day!

Every morning I head over to Checkiday to ensure that I don't miss out on any important holidays.  I'm still celebrating International Chocolate Day as I bought three candy bars from the local Cub Scout Troop!

Back to School Night = Success!

Last Thursday was Back to School Night, and my students especially enjoyed these Parent Night Quizzes from Rachel Lynette:

I also love how the parents can leave a note, too!  I'll definitely be using this "quiz" every year!

Back to School Bulletin Board = Complete and On Time!

I'm such a creature of habit ~ every year my student make an apple and pencil book for Back to School Night:

J. Crew Factory Skirts For The Win!

I find that I've been purchasing many of my clothes from J. Crew Factory like this skirt that I wore for Back to School Night:

Plus, they're always sending me coupons so everything I buy ends up being on sale!

I hope you're enjoying your weekend and getting to relax!  Thank you so much for visiting today!

Classroom Open For Business!

After much cleaning and organizing, my classroom came together just in time for my students to arrive last Thursday:

Getting Right Back to Business!

The kids got right to work on the first day by completing a vacation report.  After morning exercises, we had our first Morning Meeting!

Play Doh = Beginning a New Tradition!

After reading many blog posts about giving students Play Doh at the start of the school year, I decided to try it out!  I bought a 20-pack of Play Doh at Walmart for $8.40.  The kids LOVED creating with their Play Doh for the last half hour of school on Friday.  Check out some of their creations:

Currently It's Sensational September!

Hello there!  Currently, I'm back to work as the summer just flew by in a blink of an eye!  This means that it's time to link up with Anne in Residence for:

http://www.anneinresidence.com/2018/09/currently.html

Starting

I'm officially starting school.  My students' first day is/was Thursday, September 6th.  I've been quite busy getting my classroom all clean and organized.  My goal ~ as always ~ is to remain organized and to keep my desk clean.

This is the view of the classroom from my newly cleaned desk.

Buying

I've been buying some seasonal, autumn scented soap:

Sharing

I really LOVE this quote that I saw on Instagram so I'm sharing it here:

Reading

Right now I'm reading a historical fiction/love story novel:

https://www.amazon.com/Bellewether-Susanna-Kearsley/dp/1492637130/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1536098333&sr=8-1&keywords=bellewether+by+susanna+kearsley

The author rotates between current times and pre-revolutionary times.  The story takes place on Long Island.  Click here or on the book cover to read more at Amazon.

Recording

I'm an on-demand person so I never record any TV programs.  Right now I'm watching the new season of Ozark.

https://www.ign.com/articles/2018/08/31/netflixs-ozark-season-2-review

Have a sensational September!  Thank you so much for visiting today!
