Welcome to a Wonderful Wednesday Hodgepodge!

Hello friends!  I'm so happy you're here to join me for this week's installment of:

http://frame.bloglovin.com/?post=6295374559&blog=4971093&frame_type=feed

1. They say you learn something new every day. What did you learn yesterday?

I learned that my students still get really excited to chew gum during the MCAS (state test).  Between chewing gum and sprinkling magic glitter on their desks, taking these tests is little more fun!

2. Have you ever had a now or never moment? Elaborate.

When my husband and I were in Florida, we had the great opportunity to kayak in the Everglades!  I'm obsessed with this giant swamp and how important it is to the ecosystem.  I loved being able to get up close to all the amazing birds!

3.  April 25th is National Telephone Day. Do you still have a land line or have you gone mobile only? When you receive a text message do you respond immediately? Last time you turned your phone off?  In two or three sentences share with us a story/memory/incident from your childhood (or something current if that's too hard) where the telephone is featured.

I absolutely still have a land line!  I don't carry my cell phone on my person so I do NOT respond to text messages immediately.  My phone is OFF right now!

Last May my husband was putting on his shoes on the side of the bed when his hip replacement dislocated, and he fell to the floor in agony.  Of course, he was alone in the house, and his cell was on the bureau on the other side of the room.  Lucky for him, the house phone was on his nightstand, and he was able to call 911.

4. Close call, at someone's beck and call, call the shots, call a meeting, call it quits, call in sick, call on the carpet, wake up call...which call have you 'heard' recently? Explain.

I recently had a close call with my "elderly" Honda Pilot.  It had an exhaust leak; the dealer said it would cost $1,500 to repair (that's what the car's worth ~ more or less!).  Luckily, I was able to bring the car to an auto shop that specializes in exhaust work, and my car is all fixed at a cost of $235!

5. What subject do you wish you'd paid more attention to in school?

I wished I paid attention in English ~ maybe I would have learned how to write better at an earlier (younger) age!

Friday Favorites From Florida!

Hello there!  Thanks for visiting and reading!  Today I'm linking up with Andrea, Erika  and  Narci for:

http://www.momfessionals.com/2018/04/friday-favorites_20.html

On Friday, April 13th, my husband and I went on a five day vacation to Delray Beach, Florida where we stayed in the Pineapple Grove Arts District.  The weather was perfect; we enjoyed the Delray Affair Craft Festival; and we stayed in an awesome hotel!  Here are some more highlights:

*Visiting My Aunt!

My Aunt has early onset Alzheimers and lives in a facility in Delray Beach.  Every afternoon I went to visit her:

She loves to wear my hat!

*Watching the Sunrise Every Day

Every morning my husband headed to Delray Beach to watch the beautiful sunrise:

*Kayaking in the Everglades

For me, going to the Loxahatchee Wildlife Preserve was the highlight of the trip because we went kayaking in the Everglades:
If you look closely at the picture, you can see a well-hidden heron on the right and further down, there are two egrets.  We only saw one alligator while kayaking, but there were endless birds and sawgrass.

In the afternoon, we went on a tram tour with a volunteer guide ~ she knew A LOT about the Everglades.  Check out how brave she is to put this grasshopper on her arm!

*Shopping at Beall's

When it came time to buy souvenirs, we headed to Beall's which had plenty of Florida clothes.  Have you ever shopped at this store?  If you get a chance to shop here, you are lucky!

This is the last day of April vacation so it's back to reality!  I hope you're having good weather where you live!

Wednesday Hodge Podge Straight From Florida!

Happy Wednesday from the Sunshine State!  As always, I'm delighted to link-up with From This Side of the Pond for:

http://www.fromthissideofthepond.com/2018/04/slithering-into-hodgepodge.html

1. Three things on your spring bucket list? If you don't have an actual list that's fine, pretend you do.

1.  Go to Florida =

2.  Visit my Aunt who has Alzheimer's (she's at a facility in Florida) =

3.  Go to the Everglades =

2. Where do you find rest? What restores your soul? When was the last time you did whatever it was you answered here?

I find rest when I'm reading ~ here's the book I'm finishing up now:

https://www.amazon.com/Lying-Game-Novel-Ruth-Ware/dp/1501156209/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1523968101&sr=8-1&keywords=the+lying+game+ruth+ware&dpID=61U6KjgT-vL&preST=_SY291_BO1,204,203,200_QL40_&dpSrc=srch

I find rest after I've gone spinning which I did a week ago.

I especially find rest when I'm doing a crossword puzzle or a Sudoku ~

3. April is National Celery Month. Who knew? Do you like celery? What's your favorite dish made with celery? On a veggie and dip platter which would you reach for first-carrot sticks, celery sticks, cucumbers or cherry tomatoes?

Sure, I like celery ~ if I'm at a party, and it's already cut up, and yes, I'd reach for it after cauliflower!

4. I read here eight things to do before 8 am to make your day less hectic-Start one load of laundry, drink water, empty the dishwasher, read your Bible, know what you're having for dinner, get dressed, brain dump (two lists-one what you're thankful for and one what's weighing on your mind), and after the brain dump make your to-list for the day.

How many of these are you currently doing? Which one do you think would help the most if you added it to your early morning routine?

I NEVER make a to-do list or any list because I still believe that I can remember everything I need!  I do get dressed as soon as I get up and I know what I'm having for dinner.  Most importantly, I take my dog for a walk eat breakfast and make my bed which really makes me feel all set for the day!

5. Describe the view from your window.

Palm trees and sunshine!

6. Insert your own random thought here.

I'm so lucky to be in warm weather, and I'm hoping spring arrives at some point in Massachusetts!

Thank you for checking in today!  Do you love Florida or do you prefer another warm weather state?

Expecting

Warm spring weather?  I don't think it will be here any time soon so it's a good thing I'll be going to Delray Beach, Florida soon!

I'm making lots of Morning Messages with poetry as April is National Poetry Month:
