Friday Favorites: My Friend Published a Book! Read All About It!

Happy Autumn and Welcome to October!

Thanks for visiting today as I link up with Andrea from Momfessionals and Erika from A Little Bit of Everything for:
                                     Friday Favorites!

Wow, My Friend, Claudette Sabbag, Published a Book!

Check out this information written by Claudette herself!

My name is Claudette Sabbag. I'm a retired teacher, like Susan, whom I worked with for many years in Woburn. I retired in 2019, just in time to miss the COVID years. I had an idea for a book in my head that I had been working on intermittently since 2011. When I retired, I had more time for writing. Then, I joined the Writers' Collaborative Learning Center in Reading, MA, and actually finished and published my first novel in May! Deer in the Road is about a young man whose life is transformed by a single random incident. Set on Cape Cod, it explores family issues, life choices, and cultural differences and features a touch of romance.

Here is a review from Amazon:

September Weather is Amazing!

Before I retired, September was a hectic and stressful month with Back to School and getting to know a new class.  I never really paid much attention to the weather (unless it rained, and we had to stay in for recess).  I have totally enjoyed the weather this month with its cooler temperatures and warm sunshine.  My sister and I went up to York Beach one day, and all the stores and the beach were empty (it was a cool and cloudy day so not ideal for the beach).  We still enjoyed our day and bought some Maine merchandise!

Our favorite shop is Whispering Sands!  Everything is now on sale including Teddy the Dog t-shirts from York Beach!

Puzzles:  An Interactive and Fun Way to Learn Geography!

In Social Studies, kids need to be able to locate where they live in the world.  We happen to live in  Massachusetts which has a distinct shape.  This week we started USA and World Map rotations.  There are 2 World Map puzzles and 3 USA Map puzzles, and the groups will rotate until they finish the puzzles.  If they finish early, they can draw a picture of the completed puzzle:

Have a wonderful weekend!

Colorful York Beach

Last week I went on a day trip to visit a friend in York Beach, Maine.  We went to Short Sands Beach and enjoyed a lovely day.  Check out the beautiful beach umbrellas:

The Battle of the Pool Water

I have an above ground pool that I use every day to do my water aerobics.  Well, the pool turned green, and it was taking forever to clear.  When I could finally see the bottom of the pool, I learned there was yellow algae which is quite difficult to eliminate.  Consequently, I have to get my water tested every day and modify the chemicals,...Amazingly, the yellow algae eater came through, and my pool is almost back to normal!

Club Getaway

A few weeks ago, my family and I spent the (hottest and most humid) weekend (of the entire summer) at Club Getaway in scenic Kent, Connecticut.  We went on an adults only weekend, but they have other themed options as well.
According to their web site:
Flick the switch and find what you’ve been missing from a weekend getaway. When you come to our adult summer camp, it’s like an escape for your inner child. Leave the city behind and arrive to a place where the only schedule you follow is one where adventure is planned after breakfast, and evening parties are definitely on the agenda.

My favorite parts were taking a drumming exercise class; kayaking; zip lining and spending time in the lake to cool off.  In addition, the food was delicious and plentiful ~ similar to a cruise while camping (at least, what I imagine a cruise to be!).

Sand Castles

At Revere Beach (the first public beach in America), there is an annual sand sculpture competition.  We went on Saturday while the sculptors were putting on their finishing touches:

Have you ever seen such amazing sand sculptures or gone on a "glamping" vacation like this?  I would LOVE to hear about it!  Please leave a comment!

Wearing

I've been wearing a lot of skirts with my slip-on shoes.  I'm trying NOT to wear tights for as long as possible, but I absolutely don't like when my feet get cold.  These are my new Sketchers ~ which are now on sale!

Collecting

These days I'm into collecting nicely scented lotions like this pick from The Honest Company:

I've had great success with The Honest Company's products.  Plus, I really do like Jessica Alba!

Making

I've been making a lot of meals on my gas grill!  I love cooking up a bunch of food on Sundays so that I don't have to cook during the week.  These Shadybrook cranberry and jalapeno turkey burgers are current favorites!

Taking

I'm taking my time saying good-bye to summer.  Last weekend I went to visit a friend in York Beach, and I really enjoyed seeing the ocean and laying in the sand.  Plus, I do love the feel of the sun when it's warm out!

We saw so many Monarch butterflies up in York Beach!  They're so beautiful!

Planning

I'm planning on purchasing a cozy plaid sweater, and I'm considering this one from Nordstrom ~ when it goes on sale!

If you happen to scope out any affordable plaid sweaters, please let me know!  I love plaid as much as I love to be warm in the winter!

Thank you for checking in on the blog!  I'm hoping to be back shortly with what is happening at school.  Enjoy the rest of the week!
