Storybook Sunday!

It's Sunday so that means it's time to link-up for Storybook Sunday with Paula.

This week I am recommending this delightful and whimsical book:

In this book, Mama Elephant takes Little Elephant for a walk.  If Little Elephant has a question, she needs to tug twice on Mama Elephant's tail.  Of course, Little Elephant wants to do everything the other animals do like jumping, swimming, flying,....  Here's the page where the elephants meet the frog:

The illustrations in this book are absolutely delightful.

When Little Elephant realizes that she can't do what most of the other animals do, she asks:

"Mama, what else can a little elephant do?"

Mama responds:

"A little elephant ...can ask questions and learn.  She can grow to be a big, strong, smart, beautiful elephant."

This book emphasizes the importance of asking questions and learning from the answers.  The text is also full of powerful action verbs and some examples of onomatopoeia.

I am very excited to share this book with my students!

p.s. I have been downloading Ashley Hughes' Amazing Accents packs for free on TPT, and they are really worth checking out!  (Isn't that bow awesome?)

  1. What a sweet book! You can never go wrong with Eve Bunting, I love her! This would be a great book to link up to The Reading Tutors mentor text Monday. The topic this week is figurative language. This book sounds perfect for the topic! You can find her blog at-http://www.thereadingtutorog.blogspot.com/
