Here's Another Linky Party!

Today I found a brand new Linky Party!  I'm always on the lookout for ways to connect with other bloggers, and I found this wonderful site:  http://flyingintofirst.blogspot.com/.  This is the weekly question:

My Favorite Teacher

Tell about your favorite teacher and explain why.  Share a memory or two.

***************************

My all time favorite teachers is Mrs. Shirley Ingalls.  She taught 3rd grade at the E.B. Newton School in Winthrop, MA.  In her class, I felt competent and smart for the very first time ever in school.  I met one of my very best friends, Kathy, while I was in 3rd grade, too.  Kathy and I are still friends today.  Back to Mrs. Ingalls...I just loved feeling valued and important.  One of the memories I do have is putting on a Valentine's Day play, and we took an x-ray of a heart.  Since I was in 3rd grade over 40 years ago, it's hard to remember exact memories.

When we moved to Wakefield - where I live now - I wrote a letter to the editor for Teacher Appreciation Day, and I mentioned Mrs. Ingalls in the letter.  Well, it turned out that she lives in the same town as me, and she saw my letter in the local paper.  We got together, and she was still as amazing as ever.

My friend, Cheryl, often uses this quote, and I don't know who said it, but it is along these lines:  people won't remember what you said or did, but they will remember how you make them feel.  Feeling smart for the first time in my life is the feeling Mrs. Ingalls gave to me, and I still remember that feeling to this day.

  1. Aww, I put that same quote in my post! It's so true, you do remember how people made you feel even years later!

  2. My Dear Friend Susan,

Maya Angelou said it first, but you remembering anything that I quoted made my day.

  3. I love that quote, too. It is so wonderful that you got to meet up with her again. What a great impact she had!
