Five for Friday!

Today is Friday, and that means only one thing!  It's time to link up with Doodle Bugs for Five for Friday!

This week we learned A LOT about Braille.  Here are some of the pages from my interactive flipchart:

That's me above showing the kids a page from a Braille book, Sadie Can Count, by Ann Cunningham.

It's really amazing to me that Louis Braille invented Braille because he wanted to read so much.

The kids also enjoyed writing number in Braille.  After writing the numbers in Braille, they switched papers with another student and "translated" the Braille number into standard, expanded and word form.  You can find this activity for free at:

We wrapped up our chapter on the Water Cycle in Science.  I made a Powerpoint to review the material:

Every day we have been sharing our pig stories on the rug.  Here are 2 student work samples.

I particularly like Tayla's story about Winter the Pig because she based her introduction on the Scaredy Squirrel books by Melanie Watt.

Tayla's story starts like this:

Warning:  Winter the Pig insists that you take swimming lessons.

This is Shoshana's story which takes a totally different direction:

Today the kids wrote entries in their Kid Blogs.  They also chose new avatars.  I'm really hoping some of the students will write entries over the weekend - just like their teacher!  Writing a blog is so much fun!

This is my second week trying out Twitter.  I'm not used to limiting what I write to so few words, but I guess it is a quick and easy way to send out an update.  If you'd like to check out or follow me, here's the link:
