Peek of the Week!

It's Sunday which means it's time to link-up with with Jennifer over at Mrs. Laffin's Laughings!

The best part about this week is that it's March!  That means more daylight, more warm or less cold days, less snow, more outdoor recess, spring!

Now, back to business, with what we're up to next week.

Monday is Read Across America Day!  That means we'll be trying to read as much as possible.

I'll be putting out my large selection of Dr. Seuss books, and we'll have a guest reader which is always exciting!

Thanks to Jennifer, who is sponsoring this link-up, we started Writing Circles last week.  So far, we have been divided into groups, the groups met to discuss writing ideas, and each group gave itself a name.  Here are some of the group names:  The Boom, Cotton Candy, and Revolutionary Coopers.  Next week, in their groups,  they'll be sharing their stories about something that has been said to them 100 times.  I'll have to make sure to share some of those stories, too.

In Social Studies, we will be having a quiz on the first part of the Massachusetts Bay Colony, and then we'll be moving right along in our chapter about the Puritans.  We'll be learning about why the Puritans thought education and reading were so important.  We'll also be learning about the first elementary school - the Latin Grammar School; and the first college - Harvard.  Both of these places are near where we live, and they're both still in existence.  I'm always amazed by how much history is right on our doorsteps.

The above picture shows an actual page that was used to teach students how to read back in Puritan days.  You can tell how important their religion was to them.

On Friday, the School Council has requested that we all dress up like rainbows.  That's an easy request for me because I love colorful clothes.

Now I just have to find a real life rainbow cupcake to eat!

Have a wonderful week!

  1. I agree with you that the best part of the week is that it is March (finally!). Glad to hear that Writing Circles are going well. Those names are awesome! Let me know if you have any questions about them. Thanks for linking up!
